Sourdough Rolls

Mix together in a medium size mixing bowl

1/2 cup warm water

1 package yeast

dash of sugar

Let the above set until you see the yeast start to work, usually takes

just a few minutes.

Add to the above

1 cup sourdough starter

3/4 tablespoon shortening or vegetable oil

2 cups self rising flour, see recipe at the bottom of page.

Mix together with a spoon until dough forms a ball and turns loose of bowl.

I knead in the bowl and if it is sticky add a small amount of flour and continue

to knead. (You can knead on the counter but it is more to clean.) This is a quick

knead, you are not adding flour just pulling everything together.

Place in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes.

Dough will be sticky after rising, If too sticky you can lightly dust with flour.

Cut into the number of rolls you will be making and shape. Allow to rise again,

30 to 45 minutes, Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake until nicely browned.

12 to 15 minutes.

This recipe will make 6 nice size sub rolls. Excellent dinner rolls and burger buns.

To make self rising flour:

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

3 teaspoons baking powder

Mix the above ingredients together.
