History in the Making - Part 29

I didn't sleep much... Another night with nothing but bad dreams. I suppose it's too early to be lightheaded...

Everybody is still asleep when I woke up so I got up slowly and started to look around.

I ended up finding an bright orange hand-crank flashlight and an adult bicycle overpainted in red and light gray with some traces of yellow and orange. Colorful...

Meanwhile, some of them got up and were gathering nearby.

- I found these... You mind if I took them? - I asked while trying to get a read on them all...

The awakened ones didn't disprove my request so I grabbed the bike and dragged it to the entrance. Then returned for my coat and the flashlight. As I grabbed them, the rest of them have gotten up and where gathering around...

- So... You're not coming with us... - Said the young doctor.

- I'm... No. There's someplace I must go and something I must do no matter what. I am no asset to your group! You'll be fine! Even better without having to worry about me... - I couldn't help but stutter... Still, I continued... - Most likely, I will only find devastation and pain... But that is my path, for I have to know. I believe that it is better to always know the truth rather than live a lie or live in incognito... I think... - I was starting to lose myself so I paused and then wrapped it up... - Thank you for your help!... I... I should go...

With that, I put on the coat, picked up the flashlight and stored inside it, then turned to the exit and started walking... After the first step I started to hear some quick steps approaching from behind me and soon after, a soft hand grabbed mine lightly...

- Thank you for saving me and my daughter!...

I breathe deep as I turned and just nodded... I was frightful of what I might say... Better to not utter a word rather than say the wrong thing... Still, I waited a moment then went on my way. Grabbed the bike and left...

As I ride the bike I spoke to the wind.
