As we walked down the path, I've noticed some covered bodies and lots of drag marks all around. They've been busy, but I think we're trying to do the unavoidable. Still... We should always try to protect from it... Right?
Anyways, the rest of walk was quiet and swiftly...
Upon arrival, mama Margaret was the first to come greet us with a bowl. What is it with her and carrots? Oh well... They do taste good...
I left their side and went to check on the old man just to find that he had passed away some time after I left this morning. The doctor looked as grieving as me. I breathe deep as I digested that hard news. I felt a need to all be just a dream and that I'd awake and go to work like I would always do... But that's not happening. I can't say that I really knew him but I feel like I lost a good friend. We used to have a chat after work every now and then but not much else... The doctor hands me his wallet and asks for next of kin...
- I know of a daughter, buy never met her...
Then I turned back and sit on the sofa...
Thinking back, I flashback to a time not to long ago, when he was giving me advice on my relationship at the time... I had found someone really special to me, someone that made me happy and the first I was able to imagine myself with... But like always, I managed to ruin my chances, and ended up putting myself on the corner, unnoticed and unwanted. He would always patiently listen to me telling tell tale stories of my heart, but that day... I was feeling down like never before and he was the one that spoke as I just stood in silence and tears after telling him my tale...
- You should give 'forget-me-not' flowers as a gift and a reflected silence response. It would be like saying, 'I love you and understand that you do not. Still, don't forget me for I will not forget you for as long as I live! I will always love you!'. I did something of the kind to my late wife... She didn't loved me at the time... - he laughed as momentarily looked away... - ...it took a couple of years 'till she truly noticed me. I was still starting to fix my heart and another woman had been showing interest in me... Imagine that... It took a situation like that... - ...he laughed... - One day I'll tell you all about it!
I recall the wedding picture he usually carry in his pocket.. A picture of him with his newly wedded wife having their first dance. But behind it, was the picture he was most proud of...
Folded twice, there was always a photo he took the moment after what he called "Happiness starts here". He even written it in the very bottom of that picture. In it, it was just him and his wife. It's actually a photo that someone else took of the moment that, he told me, it took almost three months to get it.
They were in a bus station were he was dropping her off. She had a business trip up north and the old car was on the shop. They've been fooling around for a while now and he decided that he would asked her when she returns... But good feelings can't be contained, and tells the tale that when she was getting on the bus, he stopped her by grabbing her left hand... She turned around to she what was going on, and as she turns he asks her to go steady. An eternal silence was made but she drops her serious face and accepts as the rest of the bus, people applauded. Most embarrassing and one of the happiest days of his life, he used to say...
- Old man... I'll find a way to deliver these photos to your daughter...
