I started to boringly talk about how I work in the area (well... used to work...)... How I sometimes tried to free time just to sit somewhere enjoyable with a beautiful view of a sunset... How the day by day job used to get easier when someone smiled or says something pleasant to us at least once a day... And then, under that tree shadow, with the sun trying to get through its branches, we noticed the cuteness of a little angel sleeping between us.
I took that time to explain the state of the road ahead and to tell what I've seen and heard about what's happening all around us... And most likely, around the world too...
She stood in silence, glancing the tree, the little angel, then her hands... Finally, words were spoken...
- You... think... ...do you believe that we're going to be alright?
I didn't have a promptly response so she's the one who continues...
- Actually, I'm not asking about your beliefs... From what you've told me, what we see here is probably the same everywhere else in the world... It's... Not what I imagined... - She ended as she looked to her daughter.
I thought on what to say for a while and decided to be blunt and speak from the heart...
- I think that... I believe that whatever the adversity it may unfold to us all, if given enough time, we can overcome anything. I think our resilience is our own human nature, perseverance or will to live no matter the odds. - I paused... Quickly looked around... Then rested my hand on her nearest shoulder and continued... - I'm oblivious to the seriousness of the situation in the rest of the world, but we'll rise again! You'll see! Historically speaking, humans had faced quite a few extinction events and loads of terrible disasters... I guess what I'm saying is... That I don't know how, but I'm confident that we'll definitely survive, rise and claim our place again.
As be both tried strongly to truly believe those words, she sneezed and the child woke up.
- Let's go. We rested enough! Time to rise!...
