As I exited I noticed the three reinforced doors that protected the entrance. I don't remember them from yesterday but then again, there's no artificial light in here... They were probably just fully opened...
As I took the first steps outside I felt a somewhat sweet and warm breeze on my face. The Sun had risen not too long ago and that created an orange and reddish aurora all around giving the surroundings a grimmer look.
Joe looked untouched but something was not quite right with him. It also looked like he was searching for something. In every direction, he gazed attentive... Always with the same expression.
Finally he broke the silence...
- I... was already here. I'm a firefighter trainee. I wanted to do some good with my life so I thought about this...
- You actually made it sound like you're a villain! - I exclaimed as I faintly smiled.
Earring that he looked down for a moment and than just laughed long and loud echoing the chuckles throughout the land around us. That was not even a good joke, but it helped to eased the view somehow...
- That was a good one. Let's call it quits for now and regroup inside. - He said as he slowly walked to the bunker entrance.
I was going to say that I felt like staying there for a while longer, but before I could speak, we heard a noise, a voice in the distance and with that, we both ended up speaking the same:
- Someone's alive! - Both of us energetically told each other.
We started to fast walk as we tried to follow the stronger and stronger sound. Finally we found out that the cry for help was coming from few buildings down from where we now are. It looked more like a pile of rocks rather than an ex-building, but then again, so does everything around.
- Keep speaking! We have to pinpoint your location! - Screamed Joe.
- Okay! I'm inside the elevator... Or rather... What's left of it. I'm not alone, my daughter is here with me. I managed to open a bit of the elevator doors but I can't open the rest otherwise rocks will fell in. - Screamed the desperate trapped woman as we searched around.
Finally, I noticed some hard cabling like I remember seeing in the movies on elevators and yelled..
- There's the elevator!
