Hi there. Thanks for finding this web page. How'd you find me? :)
There is so much good work to be done in education and society!
I will link a document here to more teaching, learning and research examples from my work. You should be able to access all the materials. If you can't access something, let me know. Of course, if you have any questions or want to discuss something in particular, let me know. You're free to use any/all the materials (just acknowledge the original source and my work, please).

The materials are nearly all in English (I teach English in my classes and the university, and schools and centers often want me to teach English, too. But I'm very happy to explore how to adapt these materials into Japanese language/contexts or other languages/contexts). I hope you can use translation software to read the materials more easily. Feel free to make a copy of the documents and play around with them.
You can see that I love to think about literacy and games (with students, with my research):
- understanding students and their game habits
- playing games
- discussing games
- understanding games (concepts)
- connecting games with society
- doing curiosity projects around games
- using literacy to participate in society (making games, holding events, creating art, etc)
I can imagine that the resources are a lot to approach at one time. If you'd like to chat about anything, let me know. Please ask me any kinds of questions you like about the resources. I love the questions "so what?" and "who cares?" and teach my students to ask me them as well. Go ahead and playfully attack my ideas, please!
It would be great to continue to think about collaboration. I'm at the point in my career where I think I have done a lot, and created a lot of resources and papers, but I'm thinking a lot about "impact" and trying to "improve students and society." I don't want to waste the time that I have left.
I'd love to:
- continue to discuss ideas?
- give a talk at your school, or you give a talk at my school?
- you are very welcome to come to my university and observe my game x literacy classes any time you like?
- do a workshop together?
- connect with you and other professors at your university?
- think about a grant-funded project to teach literacy in schools or society? I like the game "we must build a boat" and I think in order to have "bigger" impact, research funds and passionate collaborators are necessary. I'm willing to work hard. :)
Anyways, I don't want to overwhelm you. I'm sincerely grateful that you took the time to find me, read this message, check out the linked materials, and imagine that our conversations turn into actions and our actions turn into something playful and beautiful.
I'm happy to keep chatting "lightly" about games, teaching, or anything you like. I'm SUPER happy to chat about Metal Gear Solid, Steins;Gate, Ghost in the Shell, nasty board games, snorkeling, campfire cooking, gardening or many other things! :)
