Let's support children through games!
What is BOOST?
BOOST is a student organization in the University of Shizuoka's International Relations Department (Shizuoka City, Japan) who are planning and managing game-based charity events. The students are working with Jonathan deHaan (Associate Professor, University of Shizuoka International Relations Department).
The purpose of BOOST
BOOST, through fund-raising activities and charity events, helps sick and injured children at Shizuoka Prefectural Children's Hospital.
Why did we name our event "BOOST?"
In English, "boost" conveys a sense of being cheerful or promoting cheerfulness. We hope that our charity event will boost the feelings of the participants, the kids at the hospital, the community and also contribute to society.
Money raised through BOOST activities
The Shizuoka Prefectural Children's Hospital relies on donations to provide toys and games for sick and injured children. At BOOST events, children and families can play many unique and wonderful games (which we design ourselves). We ask participants to make monetary donations. We use 100% of the donations to purchase and donate games to cheer up sick children and support their better hospitalization and recovery.
Why are we using games?
In the Children's Hospital, games help children:
- have a sense of normal life in a stressful situation
- calm down
- make friends of all ages in the wards
- endure treatments
- get better more quickly

BOARD GAME SHIZUOKA
in TENYNEO
On August 20 (Saturday), BOOST and TENYNEO (a store in Shizuoka) collaborated for the first time to hold a charity game event. Anyone who liked board games was welcomed and many people came and played games together. The store was almost full and we were able to enjoy 2 hours of various games. We talked about BOOST's mission to raise money to buy games and toys for sick children and we collected donations. 9,000 yen in donations was collected at the event.
A big thank you to everyone who came and played games and to everyone who donated to the charity! We are very grateful!
TENYNEO will continue to hold a BOARD GAME SHIZUOKA event every Friday from 7pm. If you are interested in board games but don't yet have a gaming group, we are sure you can find a game with other welcoming gamers at TENYNEO. For more information, please visit their website: http://www.tenyneo.com/
Kusanagi Marche & BOOST:
Summer Vacation Kids' Special
On July 31, we were allowed to participate in Kusanagi Marche for the 2nd time. We had more games this time, and more people than last time came to play and talk with us.
We received 3,079 yen in donations for the Children's Hospital. We will save this money until January to combine with the 1/21 and 1/22 events to raise money for the Children's Hospital. Thank to everyone for their support and generosity!
In addition, we handed out lots of flyers at the Kusanagi Marche. If you download one from the front page of this website, and color and bring it to the Game EXPO / Game Charity BOOST, you will receive a special prize!
We donated 9 games and toys to the Children's Hospital.
BOOST's first appearance at
Kusanagi Marche!!
On June 26, BOOST was invited to host a booth at the monthly Kusanagi Marche event. We prepared many fun games to play with visitors for free. We were able to inform many people about BOOST's activities. We collected 3,000 yen in donations which we will save until the main BOOST event in January of 2017 and then combine donations from that event to buy and donate games and toys to the Shizuoka Prefectural Children's Hospital. We sincerely thank everyone who visited our booth and we thank everyone who made a donation!
We will be at the next Kusanagi Marche on July 31 from 8am-11am. Please come and play a game with us!

Thank you very much for your
support and generosity!
On January 23 at the Shizuoka Game EXPO, Shizuoka Game Charity BOOST, thanks to the warm support and cooperation of everyone (this year's event was 4x bigger than last year's!), was able to collect donations totaling 40,000 yen (3x last year's amount!). Thank you very much!
After the event, we collaborated with Kuwahara-san, a Child Life Specialist at the Shizuoka Prefectural Children's Hospital, to select appropriate games for various ages and types of illnesses. We received additional support from Kawashima-san and Sasaki-san at Hyaku Cho Mori, where we purchased 14 games and toys on February 5. We were able to visit the Children's Hospital on February 12 to make our donation on behalf of everyone.
We hope that the games and toys help to reduce the children's stress and pain, and that the children are able to positively face treatments and have a quick recovery.
The activities of Shizuoka Game Charity BOOST were featured in the morning edition of the Shizuoka Newspaper on February 13 (please see below).
