Thank you for an amazing turn out!
Shizuoka Game EXPO
by University of Shizuoka Game Lab
On January 23, approximately 200 people attended the Shizuoka Game EXPO at the Udo Lifelong Learning Center and Kusanagi Children's House to experience the potential and power of games.
Visitors were able to play a wide variety of games with positive benefits for families, friends, the mind, the body and the heart. For example, visitors created desserts in a cooking battle, played a board game version of Mario Kart that was designed by elementary school students, balanced and stretched and acted and ran in exercise games, designed levels using Little Big Planet (PS3) and explored family-focused classic and modern board games from Japan and around the world.
In addition, the Shizuoka Game Charity BOOST raised 40,000 yen on Jan. 23 which was used to buy and donate 14 games and toys for sick children in the Shizuoka Prefectural Children's Hospital on Feb. 12. We thank everyone for your warm support and donations. Please click here for more information about BOOST.
We sincerely thank everyone who came to the event to play and learn about games, the Udo Lifelong Learning Center and Kusanagi Children's House for hosting and helping to organize the event, Spiel Bande for teaching so many new games to so many people, and GIFT 10 Industry for donating the wonderful raffle prize games.
We are already making plans to "level up" the Shizuoka Game EXPO for next year in order to provide more opportunities for people to get to know the power and potential of games. We plan to include many more kinds of games next year (e.g., video games, mobile games) and hold more exhibits, panels, workshops and discussions about educational and social impact games. We welcome participation from anyone who would like to cooperate with us to make the event a great success.

University Game Project Sessions
University of Shizuoka students have been exploring how games can improve schools and society. The students are makers, players, researchers, activists and teachers. Try some amazing games and activities at each of their booths, and have a chat about games, education and our communities. Ask these game experts anything!
Guests playing sample copies of the raffle games (we used a "play to win" model: they each received a raffle ticket for playing)
Poster explaining our Challenge Card system: guests had to complete challenges (e.g., lose a game, play with someone younger than you) to earn enough stamps to get raffle tickets.
Thank you very much to GIFT 10 Industry for donating the raffle prizes: "The Arabian Pots" and "The Mystery of the Dattakamo Civilization!"
Shizuoka Game Charity Boost
The Shizuoka Children's Hospital relies on donations to provide games and toys for sick kids. We have made some excellent games for you and your friends and family to play together. If you like our games, please consider giving us a small donation. With 100% of the money we raise, we will buy board and card games to give to the Children's Hospital!
