Jorge Arús

Dr. Arús Hita teaches English language and linguistics at the Facultad de Filología Inglesa, Universidad Complutense de Madrid. After graduating from the Universidad Complutense in English studies (Filología Inglesa), he was awarded a scholarship to direct the Spanish House at the College of Wooster, Ohio. After a two-year stint in Madrid, where he completed the doctoral courses in English linguistics, he returned to the U.S. with a scholarship for postgraduate study at Villanova University, where he earned a Master's Degree in Spanish Language and Literature and worked as a Spanish instructor at undergraduate level. This was followed by a year working as lecturer for the department of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania. Since his return to Spain in 1997, he has been teaching at the Universidad Complutense, where he earned his Ph.D. in English Linguistics in 2003. His publications include articles on contrastive linguistics and second-language teaching, within the systemic functional framework, in various national and international journals and edited volumes. He is currently copy-editor of Atlantis and b-learning coordinator at the School of Language of Linguistics, UCM.
