Agnes Kukulska-Hulme is Professor of Learning Technology and Communication in the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University, where she leads the Future Learning Research and Innovation Programme and contributes to materials and designs for online courses. She is Past-President of the International Association for Mobile Learning and has been involved in the annual mLearn conference series since 2012. She is on the Editorial Board of several journals including ReCALL.
Agnes has a background in applied linguistics, with 10 years’ experience as a university lecturer in French and Computational Linguistics at Aston University, followed by over 25 years’ experience in online distance education and mobile language learning at The Open University. Her current areas of interest include learner-led innovation, migrant and refugee learning, challenges among marginalised populations, teachers’ professional development for MALL, use of intelligent personal assistants, support for student wellbeing in digital learning environments, and the development of digital and metacognitive skills for learning. She supervises doctoral students, many of them researching MALL and collaborative or social learning.
Agnes has authored policy and practice reports for UNESCO, British Council, Commonwealth of Learning and Cambridge University Press. Her published books include Mobile Learning: The Next Generation (2016) and Mobile Assisted Language Learning Across Educational Contexts (2021).
