EF Teach Online
I have worked with educational technology since the beginning of my career as an IT lecturer at a college in the UK. The learning software I wrote back then in the ‘90s as an excited school teacher worked very far down Bloom’s taxonomy but then I’d never heard of such a thing.
MALL liberated my thinking on the way I found it can support socialised, classroom-based learning as well as enabling CMC-type interaction for more remote learning. Shortly after my first EUROCALL in 2010, I introduced iPad-based lessons with class sets across EF’s chain of International Language Schools – this led to producing a series of in-house apps and our first nomination for a British Council ELTON. After coining the phrase ‘Microblending’ (for informed teacher-driven choice on how much tech to use when) in my doctorate, I designed a successful 4 level task-based younger learners course with a mobile-first strategy to get rich media and task-based interaction into summer school classrooms.
I am an active conference speaker and do some consulting on app and course development but my main focus is on tools that support teachers. At EF Teach Online my aim is to bring the most effective blend of human interaction to online language learning.
