May 2013: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie)

All of the alumnae who gathered at Sherrill's on May 22 to discuss Sherman Alexie's semi-autobiographical novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian found the book fascinating, moving and funny. We shared favorite moments, and several readings. All of us loved the drawings and felt they enriched the story; several were surprised to find out during the discussion that Alexie is not himself a graphic artist, and that the illustrations were by Ellen Forney. Sherrill read some excerpts from an interesting interview with Forney about the collaboration.
Really the only complaint was Betsey's feeling that Junior's acceptance and forgiveness of his father was hard to believe.
