Theater Outing: Emperor Jones 2pm Matinee Oct 2, 2016 at Tao House in Danville

This year we've decided to see Eugene O’Neill’s The Emperor Jones. The play is part of Danville’s yearly Eugene O’Neill festival. The unique thing about the performance is that is held at the barn of O’Neill’s former home in the Danville hills: Tao House. This complicates matters somewhat, since you need to arrive early and park in Danville in order to take the National Park Service shuttle up to the house (which is on a gated, private road). However, if you get there early enough, you can tour the home before the performance! It doesn’t take long and it is a lovely building with great views of Mount Diablo. Here is a description of the play from the festival’s website: “Fugitive turned island dictator Brutus Jones learns that he has a revolt on this hands and must flee for his life. O'Neill's ground-breaking play explores the psyche of a hunted man trying to outrun his guilt and fears. Don't miss the American theatre's first psychological thrill ride.” Here are some useful links:Tickets: Click here to purchase tickets
