June 2013: Rez Life: An Indian's Journey Through Reservation Life (Treuer)

Post date: Jun 27, 2013 5:41:30 PM

Many thanks to MaryAnn for hosting our June 20 discussion of Rez Life by David Treuer. All of us felt we learned interesting things about Native American history, and it also shed light on some aspects of the modern experience for Native Americans, although Nancy did not feel she got a handle on what modern reservation life is like. Some of us got a bit bogged down in the historical discourses. We appreciated his willingness to be critical of failings of Indians and tribal leadership, as well of the US government. Unsurprisingly, it was a difficult book to read in some parts, although humorous in others.
