December 2012: Nothing Daunted (Wickenden)

A wonderful group of long time book club members gathered at Jennie's on Dec. 13 to discuss Dorothy Wickenden's tale of her grandmother's exploits, Nothing Daunted: The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West. All were impressed by these young women's pluck and uncomplaining good spirits as they faced a completely different world than that in which they had grown up. Some of us found the beginning of the book a bit scattered, and felt that the story did not really get going until our heroines headed west. Most were fascinated by the historical information included, and some readers had personal ties to certain locations and so a special interest.

Thanks to Jennie for hosting, and to George for being cute as a button as we admired him before he headed off to bed.
