Why this project or unit on “Physicians as Role Models in Health Promotion”?

Pls. look at the concept maps or frameworks of the Course (Health Management) and Unit 1 (Concept of Health and Disease) and you will readily understand the reason for inclusion of this unit or project (Physicians as Role Models in Health Promotion) in this Course.

If all physicians can be role models in health promotion, the Health for All Movement will have a better chance of success.

To be an effective role model in health promotion, physicians should have a clear concept of health and disease.

To be an effective and credible health management planner, physicians should not only have a clear concept of health and disease, but they should also be practicing what they preach. Being role models in health promotion contributes to credibility.

At the end of the unit, the student must be able to:

1. Appreciate the importance of role modeling of physicians in health promotion.

2. Apply the concept of health and disease in physician’s modeling role in health promotion.

Instructions on how to accomplish the project

1. Individual work as well as group work

Individual work -

Interview at least 5 physicians on how they promote their own health.

Write a paper entitled

"Physicians as Role Models in Health Promotion"

Contents:

Present state of modeling role of physicians

What you think the modeling role should be

Note: Invoke and apply your concept of health and disease.

Specifications:

3 - 5 pages of short bond papers, typewritten, double-spaced

After individual works - group members discuss and come out with a group paper to be presented and to compete with the papers from the other groups in a paper presentation contest.

5-minute presentation

Digital slides are allowed.

2. There will be a contest among the group presentations.
