Why this unit on “Concept of Health and Disease”?
All physicians before they start managing health problems of other people and their own self should have a clear concept of health and disease.
With a clear concept of health and disease, they will be effective, efficient, and humane physicians or managers of health problems.
Thus, this unit, its importance, and at the early stage of medical education.
TERMINAL OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the student must be able to:
1. Discuss the concept of health and disease in health management.
2. Apply the concept of health and disease in the health management of individuals, families, and communities.
3. Apply the concept of health and disease in formulating a health promotion program for own self and own family.
4. Apply the concept of health and disease in a physician's modeling role in health promotion.

1. Look at the Concept Map or Framework of this unit once again.
2. For the moment, focus attention on Debate on Issues in Health and Disease.
3. Read the instructional design of Debates on Issues in Health and Disease before you proceed with a small group discussion to bring out your initial concept of health and disease. Remember, at this point in time, we are here in our schedule.
4. In the small group discussion, use the debate issues guide.
5. After you are through with the small group discussion to bring out your initial concept of health and disease, go for your independent study. You can read. You can ask. You can interview resource persons. You can utilize any form of learning activities that will suit your style to achieve effectively and efficiently the learning objectives of this unit and this course.
