HEALTH MANAGEMENT

Dear Learner,

Mabuhay!

Welcome to the course on "Health Management"!

In the "Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education" Program that you had just taken recently, remember the following learning outline:

In this course on "Health Management", we will develop the frameworks or foundations until we reach a mastery level or, put it in another way, until we acquire the competencies expected of a physician. Thus, the general learning strategy will be as illustrated below:

WHY STUDY HEALTH MANAGEMENT?

Try to recall the purposes of being or training to be a physician. Can you still remember them? We took that up in the "Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education" program, especially in the "Physician-To-Be" unit.

Just for a review, a physician will go to a community to practice his profession, one, to earn a living and second, to serve the health needs and to solve the health problems of all the human beings in the community.

With such a statement on the purposes of being a physician, studying health management, therefore, is understandably a must for all physicians-to-be.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The general objectives of the course on "Health Management" are to learn the concept of health and disease and primary health care; to make you realize the importance of role modeling of physicians in health promotion; and to learn how to formulate management plans for health of individuals, families, and communities and health for all movement.
