Welcome to Braswell Genealogy, an ongoing collection of Braswell records of various spellings. (Bracewell, Braswell, Brazil etc) This collection will focus primarily on the descendants of the Reverend Robert Bracewell who was born in England, attended Oxford University and graduated with a B.A. degree in 1631.  He came to America, settled in Isle of Wight County Virginia and preached at OLD BRICK, also known as Historic St Luke's Church. (above)  He had a family and actually left a will for us in 1667.

Many have worked on Braswell genealogy, some more than others, all searching for their ancestors, and contributing to the results we see today.  In 2003, the late Carey Hamilton Bracewell began administering the Braswell DNA Project at FTDNA.  To his credit, much has been accomplished.  We have many lines proved with paper trail and backed by Y-DNA.  We also have Jamestowne Society members, which includes a descendant of Matthew Strickand Jr & Ann Braswell.

If you are a descendant of Reverend Robert Bracewell and don't find your line here, or would like to find out if you are a descendant, please contact me and I will do my best to update this information or assist in helping you find your line.

One of the top posts provides an outline of descendants being built upon wills and other records which provide the best circumstantial evidence possible for the construction of this bird's eye view of the early Bracewell family in America.  The subsequent posts, in date order, provide documentation to substantiate the outline.

Update!  Part of Carey Braswell's lineage has been accepted into the Jamestowne Society through Valentine Braswell and Jane Pope!  The line goes through their son Richard to Richard and Obedience, and then follows R&O's son William, who was the brother of Carey's ancestor Richard.  I wish he was alive to see this.
