The name Nolleyboy/Nolliboy is an exceedingly rare surname in America which originated from France and was spelled Nolibois. Pierre Nolibois, had a son Daniel who was baptized in 1646 in the French Hugenot Church onThreadneedle Street in London England. Daniel immigrated to Virginia about 1699 and is found in Isle of Wight County, Virginia records. He is believed to be the ancestor of Barnaby Nolleboy of Nash County, North Carolina.
Before it was known that Barnaby Hart was a Nolleyboy/Nolibois, his lineage was totally unknown. No one has been able to figure out which Hart family Barnaby belonged to, not with records or even atDNA.
It is imperative to note that Barnaby Nolleyboy informally changed his family's name to Hart (which was his mother's surname) when he moved from Nash County, North Carolina to Robertson County, Tennessee. One can only speculate why and imagine the teasing that may have occured for such an unusual name. Many of the Nolleyboys unofficially dropped the boy and went by Nolley.
How is it possible that Barnaby Hart knew the intricate details of Solomon Whitfield's estate settlements made by the executor unless he was Barnaby Nolleboy, the husband of Winney Whitfield? I believe the 1828 deposition is the smoking gun and is very strong circumstantial evidence that Barnaby Hart is in fact Barnaby Nolleyboy.
The 1810 NC and 1820 TN census records match the family. Later census records reveal that they were all born in North Carolina except Calvin who was born 1817 in Kentucky, which was after the move from North Carolina.
Recall that Barnaby "Hart" testitfied in his 1828 deposition in Robertson County, Tennessee that he moved from North Carolina about the beginning of the year 1815, about one or two months after Jacob Whitfield told him that he had not settled with his sisters Mary and Charity Whitfield.
Birth years from census records: Barnaby 1780 NC, Wife Winney 60-70 in 1840, (died before 1850 census), Sarah 1802 NC, Norfleet ~1804 NC (may have died before 1850), Avery 1806 NC, Nancy 1808 NC, Bartlett 1810 NC, Winney 1814 NC, Calvin 1817 KY.
It is likely that Barnaby named his oldest daughter, Sarah, after his mother, and his youngest daughter Winney after his wife.
