This Indenture made the 12 day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Seventeen between Lazarus Strickling of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina on the one part and Clabon Finch John Perry david Windbond William Whitfield senr William Whitfield Jnr of the County and State afore said Trustees in trust for the use and purpose herafter mentioned of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the respect and regard that he the sd Lazarus Strickling -------------- for the Methodist Episcopal Church is also for and in the ---further Consideration of the sum of five Shillings in hand paid before the ensealing and Delivery her of the receipt here of is acknowledge hath given granted Bargained Sold alien and Confirmed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell alien convey and confirm unto the said Claiborn Finch John Perry david Windbon William Whitfield senr and William Whitfield Jr and there Successors forever a certain parcel or piece of Land lying and being in the County aforesaid containing one acre more or less Beginning East at a black oak runing west to a Hickory from thence south to a black oak from thence East to a black oak from thence north to the beginning Containing one acre of Land more or less to have and to hold all and singular the above mentioned and discribed parcel or peace of land with the apperteanances to the same belonging or apperteaning to the said Claiborn Finch John Perry David Windbond William Whitfield Sr and William Whitfield Jr Trustees as aforesd and their successors forever In trust for the purpose of Erecting a House or place of Worship for {101} The use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the united States of america according to the rules and disciplin of said Church and in further trust and confidence that the ministers or Preachers of the said methodist Episcopal Church and us other, Shall for ever have after have full pirviledge from time to time to hold their meetings or Preachings the the word of God therein and that When ever one or more of the Trustees Shall die or cease to act the survivors or remaining Trustees shall proceed to nominate and elect more of such standing in the sd ME. NOTE: Willey Strickling's mark could say his mark so it's debatable as to whether Willey is male or female, but Lazarus had a daughter named Willey so to me it appears to be Lazarus' daughter and "her" mark.
P.S. I would like to think that this Lazarus is the son of John who was granted 200 acres in 1784, sold 40 acres to Lazarus Jr (his brother?) in 1791, then sold 159 acres to Allen Finch in 1795, with 1 acre unaccounted for.
1823 - LAZARUS STRICKLAND TO JOHN RICE SR = 400 ACRES
This Indenture made this the 3rd day of September and in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred & twenty three by and between Lazarus Strickland of the County of Nash and state of North Carolina of the one part and John Rice of the same County & State aforesaid of the Other part Witnesseth that the said Lazarus Strickland hath for an in consideration of the Sum of Six hundred Dollars to him in hand paid before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the Said Lazarus Strickland hath granted bargained Sold and Conveyed unto the said John Rice his heirs and assigns forever a Certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Nash on the Tosnot Swamp and bounded as follows viz begining at the mouth of the miry branch thence up said miry branch to the mouth of the Crooked thence up said Crooked branch to a Corner pine in John Taylors line thence south to a Corner pine thence West to a runner white Oak thence South along a line into the prong of the Meadow branch Whitley line Cornering on a white Oak thence down the meanders of said Stricklands Spring branch to the mouth and Cornering on a black gum East (?) to the white Oak ford thence down the meanders of Tosnot Swamp to the begining Containing four hundred acres be the same more or less together with all trees woods & waters profits hereditiments whatsoever to the same belonging in and the said premises or in any way thereunto to have and to hold the said Land and premises unto the said John Rice his heirs and assigns forever firmly and Clearly by discharge of divers or Clear from all person or persons that Shall or may lay any claim or Claims to sd Land for which Cause I warrant and defend the said tract of Land unto John Rice Sn or his heirs forever as witness I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written.
