Create OBIEE Requests ( Simple Process flow )

Process flow:

1. Start OBIEE Web

a. Open a Browser Window and type in

http://localhost:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard

b. Enter the following information to log in:

User ID Administrator

Password Administrator

c. Click Log In.

2. Click Answers to navigate to the OBIEE Answers start page.

3. In the Subject Areas section, click paint The paint subject area appears in the left

selection pane.

4. Expand the Time d to display the columns.

5. Click on Greg Year

6. Create a request for yearly sales report.

a. Under Market Table click on Mktdesc column

b. Scroll up to the “Fact” Group of columns expand it

c. Choose Dollars Measure

7. Review the results of the request you just created.

a. In the right pane, click the Results tab

b. Notice the results appear in a table format. This is the default.

c. Scroll down and click the Next Page button to view the next set of rows in

the table.

d. Click the All Pages button to view all the rows in the table.

e. How many rows of data are in the table for this request? ____________________

8. Save the request in a new folder.

a. Click the Save Request button. The Choose Folder window opens.

b. Click the Create Folder button. The Create Folder window opens.

c. Name the new folder by typing My Reports in the Caption field.

d. Click OK. A new folder is created in My Folders.

e. Click the My Reportss folder (make sure the folder is open and My Folders :

My Reportss is filled in for “Folder” ).

f. In the Name field, type Yearly Sales Report.

g. Click OK.

h. The request is saved in the My Reportss folder in the My Folders section of the

catalog.

9. View the saved request in the catalog.

a. Click the Answers link.

b. In the Catalog section, select My Folder > My Reportss to see your saved request.

c. Click on the hyperlink for Yearly Sales Report.

d. Click the Modify button.

10. Modify the request to sort data by Greg Year in Ascending Order, then mktdesc in

descending order.

a. Click the Order By icon on the Greg Year. The icon changes to the Order

Ascending icon.

b. Click the Order By icon twice on the mktdesc column. The icon changes to the

Order Descending icon with a 2.

NOTE: The 2 on the icon indicates that this is a secondary sort. In this case, the

State column represents the primary sort.

11. Click the Results tab to verify the sort.

12. Remove sorting by clicking the Order By icon until shows up on each

column.

13. Format dollars to appear as whole dollar amounts without decimal points.

a. Click the Criteria tab.

b. Click the Format Column icon in the Dollars column. The Column

Properties window opens.

c. Check the Override Default Data Format check box in the Data Format tab.

d. Select Currency from the Treat Numbers As drop-down list.

e. Select $ from the Currency Symbol drop-down list.

NOTE: The formatting is already configured by the developers to show up as

Dollars with $.

f. Select 0 from the Digits drop-down list. Digits represent the numbers after the

decimal.

g. Click the Use 1000’s Separator checkbox.

h. Click OK.

14. Click the Results tab to verify the formatting.

15. Center the alignment of the Greg Year column.

a. Click the Criteria tab.

b. Click the Format Column icon in the Fiscal Year column. The Column

Properties window opens.

c. Click the Style Format tab.

d. Select Center from the Horizontal Alignment field drop-down list.

e. Click OK.

16. Click the Results tab to view the alignment change.

17. Return the Greg Year column settings back to the defaults and check the results.

18. Modify the mktDesc column heading.

a. Click the Criteria tab.

b. Click the Format Column icon in the mktdesc column.

c. Click the Column Format tab.

d. Select the Custom Headings check box.

e. Type Market Desc in the Column Heading field.

f. Click OK.

19. Navigate to the Criteria tab and then the Results tab and verify that the new name is

displayed in both places.

20. Change the Market Desc column name back to the original name.

a. Click the Criteria tab.

b. Click the Format Column icon.

c. Click the Column Format tab.

d. Clear the Custom Headings check box.

e. Click OK.

f. Verify that the name has changed.

21. Set up conditional formatting on the Dollars column.

a. Click the Criteria tab.

b. Click the Format Column button on the Total Revenue column.

c. Click the Conditional Formatting tab.

i. Click the Add Condition button.

ii. Select Dollars from the drop-down list. The Create/Edit Filter window

opens.

iii. Select is greater than from the Operator drop-down list.

iv. Enter 100000 in the Value field.

v. Click OK. The Edit Format window opens.

vi. Click the Color button.

vii. Select green from the color selector and click OK.

viii. Select Bold from the Style drop-down list.

ix. Click OK.

d. Repeat the process and create the following conditional formatting:

Criteria Operator/Value Color Style

Dollars is Less than or equal to 100000 Red Bold

e. Click OK to close the Column Properties window when you are finished.

f. Click the Results tab to view the conditional formatting.

g. Save this request as a new request in your My Reports folder. Name the request

Formatted Yearly Sales Report.
