As the name suggests, the Northern Copperhead will indeed have a reddish copper colored head which will be an hourglass shape. Color pattern will dark-chestnut cross bands which tend to be seen as wide on the sides and more narrow on the center of the body. If aroused, the snake may strike and vibrate its tail. At youth, coloration will be far more pale with a yellow tail tip (Connant and Collins 398).
