Eastern Tiger Salamander
Although this is one of the more abundant species of the Ambystoma genre, it is a rare find at the site. The species can be found on the eastern coast of the United States as well as The Great Plains and various areas in the South East. The Tiger Salamander could be found in most habitats suitable for burrowing and with a local body of water for breedings. As most Ambystoma, it utilizes burrows made by smalle mammals. The species are threatened by habitat alteration and water quality - especially when pH is lowered as it affects fitness. The IUCN, however, classifies it as a species of Least Concern as it has a large population and broad range of habitats.
