Green Salamander
The Green Salamander can be found in and areas surrounding the Appalachian Mountains running from Pennsylvania to Georgia with isolated populations in Ohio, North and South Carolina, and central Tennessee. The salamander is found in damp crevices in shaded rock areas, ledges, beneath bark, and fallen trees. Green Salamanders lay eggs in these areas as well. It is uncommon throughout its range and has exhibited significant declines in the 1970s losing up to 30% of its population. Threats include habitat loss and over-collecting for pet trade. For this reason, it is determined by the IUCN as a Near Threatened species
