Adult Size: 5.7 - 12.2cm Record: 14cm
A very unique animal with a number of red spots ranging up to 21 red spots on its dorsal side. As aquatic adults, they are normally olive green by may also by a yellowish brown with a yellow ventral side with blck spots. Males have a high tail fin.
Red Efts - A more common stage, at least in the summer
Adult size: 3.5 - 8.6cm
Very distinct orange-red color with some spots (Conant and Collins 442)

The spotted newt can be found throughout the Eastern region of the United States to the Great Plains. The Red Spotted Newt inhabit ponds as larvae and adults. Adults may also inhabit woodland areas. Although invasive species such as the bluegill sunfish and division of populations by ways of roads, the species is listed by the IUCN as Least Concern.
