Symbolic Self Portraits

In our first project of the year, Eighth Graders created "Symbolic Self Portraits". Looking at the work of Frieda Kahlo and also examining the symbolism in Pauline Perdreau iconic fresco of Mater Admiriabilis, each student chose a symbolic element to represent a side of their personality that we might not otherwise see. Portraits were drawn in pencil, using shading and value, while the symbolic element was represented in color.
