Working together with Service Learning teacher Kelly Power, on this huge 5th-grade project, students created these amazing illustrated pages about a 'Change-Maker'. Alison Anson and Madison Brown Moffitt in the Library selected a book for them to research, and through Art and Service class we discussed what it means to be a Change-Maker. The instructions were to include a portrait of their subject and design the first page as a book cover. The following pages describe their subject's characteristics and background. To finish up, 5th-graders portrayed an issue they cared about, and the action they can take to make the world a better place. This project aimed to give students a deeper understanding of what it means to care passionately about an issue, work hard to make change, and the impact such work can have.
