Four Freedoms Redux

In between the Presidential Election and Thanksgiving, Seventh Grade Students considered Norman Rockwell's paintings inspired by Franklin Roosevelt's idea of the "Four Freedoms". This iconic series was recently remade by contemporary artist Hank Willis Thomas, who re-cast Rockwell's figures to represent a 'modern, diverse America'. Students worked in groups of four, with each student selecting one of the 'Freedoms': Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom from Want. Each group determined a unifying way to create their individual artworks so that they worked together as a series.
