In Level 1, the teaching on each Philosophy (PHI) module takes place through lectures and small-group seminars. Lectures should give you an introduction to the main ideas, arguments and readings on a topic; seminars give you the chance to explore the issues for yourselves in discussion with other students.
You will be automatically allocated to a seminar group that fits in your timetable, you will see this seminar on your iSheffield App
Modules are usually assessed either by coursework, exam or both but assessments on modules can vary. On most first-year modules you will be asked to prepare a short piece of writing for each seminar. It is important that you do the exercises as it helps you develop the skills you will need to successfully complete your degree.
Seminar arrangements for Religion (REL) and English (LIT) modules will vary, please check your individual module syllabi for details.
