Garden Of Shadows

Argumentative Question

The edge of the Moti Daman Fort Promenade contains the immense potential of being dynamic by inviting various activities that mostly include the commercialized sector. But the situation on the ground is such that it prevents any of it to happen. The harsh sunlight throughout the day heats up the tiled surface of the promenade making it inhabitable, hence leaving the promenade deserted. There is no shade given to break this constant sunlight on the floor. The entry to the beach has been controlled by making gateways at intervals. At these openings, there are columns that provide minimal shade. These are occupied by people and some animals. Also, the trees are so short that their shade is insufficient to fulfill these requirements. People become reluctant to move away from this pillar's shade and make the promenade static. How can the edge be made dynamic by responding to the climatic conditions, such as heat, and by manipulating the promenade to have an active interaction with the beach?

Program

We intend to rethink the promenade being such a hard edge and not having any active interaction with the beach, and respond to it by extending the promenade and using the shadows the make a sace. Also, the space can be alternatively used for programs like food shacks attracting more people. Also, the garden will respond to the heat by giving shade in appropriate shades using trees.
