Sketching is a really important part of woodworking. When you start to design a project, you want to get your ideas down on paper to create a sense of what the finished project will look like. If you can't draw what you want to build, you're not going to be able to build it either. Drawing is a good way to start the creative process and helps you figure out how you are going to put your project together. What will it look like? How it it work? What materials will you use? These are all important aspects of design.
There are some really cool challenges on the Art link above for you to get engaged with drawing. But the file below is to help you get the basic gist of simple sketching - where to start, with a few tips along the way. Go slow, take your time, and remember that sketching and drawing are skills that get better with practice!
If you want some feedback on how you're doing, take some pics of your drawings and send them to me! Email me at mdeleeuw@sd61.bc.ca
There is also a marking grid included on page two, so you can evaluate your own work!
