Jewish American Heritage Month

Jewish American Heritage Month

May is the confirmed month for Jewish Americans to celebrate their heritage and celebrate what the Jewish have achieved over the years and how they have contributed to the U.S. The presidents over the last 20 years such as Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden, have made many annual proclamations, with Bush being the first. In April 2006, President Bush announced that May would be the official Jewish American Heritage Month and also urged for a celebration of Jewish Americans. He wanted to proclaim a month where we recognize more than 350 years of history that was contributed by the Jewish that first arrived up until now. The reason why May was the month to be proclaimed was because of the 350th anniversary of the Jewish arriving in New Amsterdam (New York). In 2020, The National Museum of Jewish American History successfully pivoted an online program and launched a website with it having the support of 50 organizations around the US before Covid 19 hit.
