The FIFA World Cup, most commonly known as simply the World Cup, is a worldwide association football competition contested by men’s national teams. FIFA stands for the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association. The tournament has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of World War II. The current champions are Argentina, who won their third title in the 2022 tournament, in Qatar. The world cup involves an elimination phase, which happens over the previous three years, to determine which teams qualify for the tournament phase, and in the tournament phase, 32 teams compete for the title at places within the host nation(s) over about a month. The host nation(s) automatically qualify.

This international cup was the first time an Arab country held the World Cup (Qatar). This was the most luxurious soccer World Cup ever! Qatar spent three hundred billion dollars. The Qatar World Cup was played for 28 days, which makes it the shortest soccer World Cup since 1998. 18-year-old, Youssoufa Moukoko of Germany, is the youngest participant in the 2022 World Cup. The oldest participant is Egyptian goalkeeper, Essam El-hadary, at age 45. Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain icon, Lionel Messi, 35, confirmed in October that Qatar 2022 may be his last, while Portugal and Manchester United participant, 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, has not yet decided if this will be his last global competition. Messi and Ronaldo are two of the finest players to have ever played the game.
