Easter is a Christian holiday celebrated in April for the resurrection of Jesus. It is a symbol of a new life and rebirth. Easter is also called Pascha, and in Spanish it is called Pascua. In the catholic religion, Jesus died for our sins and while he had to die for our sins, Jesus had to carry the cross up to a hill while getting tortured. When he got to the hill, he was crucified. On the third day, he rose from the dead and was celebrated on the first day of the week, which is Sunday. About 79% of Americans celebrate Easter. However there are many types of Easters, such as Catholic Easter, Christian Easter and Orthodox Easter.
Orthodox Easter lies on April 16, 2023. The date changes each year to follow the Julian calendar. Celebrants of Orthodox Easter commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ who was the son of God who became the son of man. They believe that Jesus' resurrection happened three days after his death and crucifixion. This holiday for Orthodox Christians is one of their most important holidays. Orthodox Christians usually eat spit roast lamb and hard boil eggs. The egg is a symbol of Jesus' resurrection; they are also sometimes painted red to show the blood that was shed on the cross.
