Tier 1 Teams use implementation and student outcome data to monitor both what the adults in the building are doing (implementation or “cause” data) and the impact these efforts have on students (outcomes or “effect” data).
Tier 1 Teams use implementation and outcome data to guide development of systems and practices of their SW-PBiS framework, monitor implementation of their SW-PBiS framework, problem solve, monitor progress toward implementing plans and achieving goals, and evaluate their SW-PBiS framework.
Take the problem out of the kids and put it in a context. Then and only then we can work on a solution. Precise statements of the problem context lead to smaller, more efficient and more effective interventions.

PBiS schools use discipline data regularly to make decisions that improve student behavior and school climate. By continuously using this data to identify, define, and analyze a new problem to tackle, select and implement evidence-based practices to address the problem, and progress-monitor and evaluate the implementation of these practices and progress toward desired student outcomes, the team creates cycles of continuous improvement, slowly but steadily decreasing the frequency of unexpected behaviors.
A monthly cycle is frequent enough to have a meaningful impact on school climate and student behavior. It also allows for timely midcourse corrections if the team has not yet met the goal of their Solution Plan. At the same time, it allows enough time for the intervention to have the desired effect on student behavior. Some teams may wish to hold brief progress-monitoring meetings more frequently, such as weekly or biweekly, to allow the team to respond quickly and make any needed midcourse adjustments.
By focusing on solving school-wide problems, the team not only systematically improves outcomes for more students, but also systematically refines implementation of Tier 1 systems of support.

The SBCUSD Office Referral provides a standardized form on which all schools document Location, Problem Behaviors, Environmental Factors, and Possible Function. Adoption of the district-wide form in 2007 made it possible for the IT Department to develop an in-house database to manage discipline data (SB2000 --> Aeries, and now Unified Insights). These 2 databases allow site teams to generate immediate, up-to-date Office Referral reports for on-going data analysis.

Important Note: All Office Referrals must be input into the district database. All other databases (i.e., PBIS Rewards, SWIS, etc.) are not district approved and individual student discipline data should not be shared with outside vendors.

Aeries is an online student information system for teachers, administrators, students, and parents. Aeries allows users to view student information such as attendance and discipline records, grades, assignments, and completed college requirements.

The Aeries Portal for Staff provides easy access to student data with a web-based application designed to provide school and district administrators access to the student information they need in multiple formats (PDF, RTF, XLS or TXT). Site administrators designate which staff have access to input and generate discipline data.

SBCUSD Data - Unified Insights
Unified Insights is a data analytics and reporting platform. It brings information from multiple platforms (Aeries, Panorama, etc.) into one place.
Unified Insights helps schools to answer questions such as:
Attendance: Which/How many students are chronically absent?
Behavior: Are referrals/suspensions increasing, and where, by whom, what time of day, etc.?
Interventions: Which students may need additional support?
Equity: Are there meaningful differences among student groups - attendance rates, discipline rates, etc.?
Unified Insights brings data together, allowing staff to visualize it and use it for analysis and decision-making.

SBCUSD Data - Panorama
Panorama Education, is a K–12 platform SBCUSD schools use to understand and support the whole student.
Panorama helps schools by collecting student survey data in the areas of school climate and student skills/mindsets.
Staff can then view dashboards showing patterns across a classroom, grade, school, or student group.
When Panorama data is used with Unified Insights data schools can begin to think about students differently: their discipline data tells you what happened; their Panorama data can provide context that helps you understand what might be contributing to it.
