'METAMORPHOSIS' is a six track album and animation that conveys the life experiences of a person with mental health issues. The tracks and the animation will follow the highs, the lows and the inner thoughts of that persons mental health issues and touches on topics such as depression, anx iety, loneliness and substance abuse.
#1 LOCUSTS
‘LOCUSTS’ is the introduction to the main character. It begins with the main characters friend reaching out to him and showing concern. The central character gets incredibly defensive and throws it back onto the friend, which leads to them having a falling out over the phone.
The emotions displayed in this song are anger and irritability
#2 SITTING IN MY ROOM
‘SITTING IN MY ROOM’ is written in the perspective of the main character’s mind. He is regretful of the way he lashed out at his friend and is feeling guilty of pushing him and other friends away. The Mac Miller sample in the outro communicates the narrative of a lonely and depressed person turning to drugs to feel happiness and escape their mental demons.
The main emotions displayed in this song are guilt, hopelessness, sadness and loneliness.
#3 ALIVE
‘ALIVE’ is the main character’s lowest point in the downward spiral he has been on in the album. He is confused about what to do with his life and needs an escape from the emotions and thoughts that plague his mind, so he turns to substances to feel “Alive”. In the second verse the main character begins to realise that the drugs he is taking aren’t fixing him. The happiness he was feeling from being high was only temporary and the drugs are actually worsening his mental and physical health. The outro is a representation of the main character coming close to death, this is a turning point for him and leads into Track 4.
The emotions covered in this track are temporary happiness, ignorance and confusion.
#4 PHONE - A - FRIEND
‘PHONE A FRIEND’ sees the main character reaching out to the friend he pushed away in Track 1. After coming close to death in the previous track, the main character wants to make amends with his friend and get help for his mental issues. This is the beginning of the main character’s redemption arc as he begins to look for a healthier way to cope with his mental health. In the last verse the friend suggests that the main character goes to therapy which leads into the next track.
The emotions covered in this song are forgiveness and hopefulness.
#5 THERAPY
‘THERAPY’ serves as a timelapse for the main character attending therapy. Through this process the main character learns how to deal with his emotions. In the song he reflects on his actions in the past and how they were destructive to himself and others around him. The main character is in a much better place now, he still has negative thoughts but has learned of better ways to deal with them.
#6 METAMORPHOSIS
‘METAMORPHOSIS’ is the final track of the album. This song is the title track of the album because the main character has gone through his metamorphosis and is a much happier and kinder person. The main character is really confident and boastful in this track, he is in a place now where nothing can bring him down to the point he was in the first half of the album because he has strengthened his mind and soul.
This isn’t to say that he doesn’t still get negative thoughts, but he is now strong enough to not let them affect him.
