My spec work project this trimester is modular game assets the pieces created also served as the centre piece for my Yagan square project
Before commencing any modelling I set out to plan the size of my asset pieces to create them in such a way that they could use the snapping transforms in unreal to fit together, increments of 50 and 100. to get this size spot on I created a 200unit by 200unit cube in Unreal and exported it to Maya from this I would make a plane cut into quarters, half in the x half in the z, and all pieces would be made to fit up to the center line.
I kept things quite low poly with the intent of creating the in-game build system on the low poly models then returning to Maya to add some extra detail through further modelling.
texturing with a modular trim sheet system the entire base Yagan ship which is made up of 26 separate assets it textured using only 4 materials. My approach was to Import plane used as a construction guide into Substance painter with the UV filling the entire UV space I would then apply a material to that timber, metal sails and rope. These are applied to a UV in Maya and the models are unwrapped and have there shells placed in the correct location with the applied material ensuring correct angle for the timber grain.
This short animation show reel showcases some creature animations that I have worked on in the closing weeks of this trimester and serves as a brief look into what will become my focus in the new year.
