Hi I'm Zane Schulz I'm a junior in Yearbook & Communications class, and I love to learn new things. On this blog, I’ll be sharing stories about random topics. Outside of class, I enjoy singing , playing video games, and I love to go to church. I’m excited to keep you updated on what’s happening in our school and community!
I interviewed SOAR employees about their positions working in child care
1/22/25
“I am the daycare center director.I started working at SOAR in June of 2017- so going on 8 years. We serve around 60 children between all the programs and age groups. We have a before/after school program, a preschool program, and infant/toddler daycare. We also have a summer camp during the summer. Every day is an adventure. All of the children are exciting to work with and teach every day. The challenges we face are staffing. There are licensing standards and regulations we follow to keep in compliance with our DHS license. The best part of this job is watching and helping these children grow and learn- and we are there every step of the way.Moving was fairly easy- we had a lot of help to get it done quickly. The cleaning and reorganizing everything took the longest.During the summer we usually have the kids outside most of the time and the gym playing games. The move to the new rooms was so needed. We have A LOT more room in these 2 rooms, and are able to separate the children better in their age groups. We impact and affect these children in our care and their lives- and it is an amazing feeling and accomplishment.”
“I am a Soar Daycare worker. I've worked at SOAR for 4 months. The jobs change depending on the kids' moods and the activities we do day by day. A challenge faces Balancing the needs of individual personalities. My Best experience is when the kids are excited to see me and run up and give me hugs.”

My favorite place in the community is The Bridge Church. This week I interviewed Pastor Rob Williams III. 2/7/25
"I was Looking for jobs in Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa and Pastor Tim called me and asked if I'd consider this church."
"I love communicating Gods truth to people and seeing them find freedom in Gods truth and love as they discover it."
"Boundaries; I set lots of boundaries. I try not to take work home, make sure I take a day off, and don't answer the phone after a certain time each day; and I don't make everyone's "Crisis" my emergency."
"My calendar; I live and die by it. I plan out each day on google Calendar down to the hour."
"Lots of Prayer and seeking Gods spirit and Gods will. I asked God to break my heart for this county and I feel like he did. I believe God wants to use our Church to transform Floyd County and I'm excited to see him do it."
The first congregation was made on July, 17, 1913. The first church was built on Gilbert St in 1921. The church board started talking about moving churches 1958-1959.They purchased 2 acres to build a new church in 1958. The sanctuary was built in 1968. The expansion of the church was built some time in the 80's. In 2016 the name changed from First Wesleyan Church to The Bridge Church.
I found the history of the church interesting. I also loved interviewing Rob and getting information about his job was very intriguing.

I interviewed 3 people, 1 going to prom, 1 not attending and the last 1 has graduated but went to prom back when they were in highschool. Here's what I got…
“I am most excited to go to after prom. My prom plans is to go get food and then come to prom. I just picked my outfit. I am going to prom with both Friends and a date. I am nervous about prom.
“The reason I’m not going to prom is because I think it's boring. I also am missing it because I have to work. I do not feel like I am missing out.I will be working and sleeping. If I could change one thing about prom it would be to have more food Because I like food. I think it's fair who gets to attend because the people who don't get to are less mature.”
Person on left is me person on right is Joshua.
“I went to prom in 2001 in Osage. The thing I remember most about it is The Grand March. My advice to people going is to dance.I don't remember much. It was around 20 years ago. It has changed. It seems kids ditch out more when I was in highschool Prom was the place to be.”
I did some of my own research into how much it has changed since 2001 and here's what I got.
In 2001 Promposals just started to get out there. Another thing is kids seem to not actually like to stay nowadays and they dance a lot less. In the present day they also try to make sure more that people are not drinking alcohol or things like that.
I got this information at
How Prom Traditions Have Evolved Through History
I found that the information I have found about how prom has changed its incredible to see how it keeps evolving and changing.
I checked up on Mathew Peterson on how his prom was this is what I got...
Did you have as much fun as you thought you would?
no
Did any of your plans change the day of prom?
no
What would you do if you could change something about prom?
the way it was set up ,unorganized, and the place we did it
It was Interesting to see that how he responded to these questions.
Leadership: The Way to The Future?
5/2/25
Are leaders actually important for our future. This week I decided to interviewed 4 people about The future of leaders. I interviewed these people because they work with leaders or are leaders. All of these people have some experience in the field of leadership.
Travis Pike RRMR Guidance Counselor
Q: What makes a good leader
A: A leader needs to be informed on what is going on around him or her they need to build a team that they can trust to do what they are supposed to do also a leader needs to take in information and make the best decisions to help their group.
Q:How Are leaders important for the future
A:Any decision that leaders make sets the tone and all the decisions that a leader makes affects their team. Whether it is a decision made or an action people can see, the leader is always setting the example for others around them. Leaders should always consider the motto “The buck stops here.” meaning any decisions in their group, business, or organization ultimately falls on them to take responsibility.
Q:Advice to future leaders
A:Be observant of everything around you and trust yourself with people that will help you listen to those under your leadership. Take all the options that are in front of you, weigh them and see which one is best for your group and always learn.
Q:What are you doing to cultivate a leadership environment
A:Well one with Mrs Hoffman we teach a 6th grade leadership class to teach kids about being a leader. Two I have started the big sibling program to help foster relationships between students and just to help older students be a mentor to their younger students and also just trying to show leadership in myself with my actions for students to observe.
Jen Schmitt RRMR FFA Advisor and Middle School Science teacher
Q: What makes a good leader
A: I believe a good leader is someone that will listen and then make decisions instead of just jumping to conclusions about things and I believe a good leader is someone that spends time with people Getting to know them and a good leader is someone that motivates people to be their best.
Q:How Are leaders important for the future
A:I believe student leaders are important for the future because they are the people that are going to be adults serving on community boards in our churches in our fair boards and leading the next generation of kids.
Q:Advice to future leaders
A:Get involved, whatever you're passionate about getting involved and be active in the organization.
Q:What are you doing to cultivate a leadership environment
A: To cultivate a leadership environment I am trying to put students in charge of different things and try to teach them many different leadership skills and career development skills.

A: I think someone who is a good leader had good qualities like willing to learn from their mistakes knows how to give directions without sounding bossy and just genuinely kind
Q:How Are leaders important for the future
A:leaders are important for the future because its literally our future so we need to make sure we get good ones
Q:Advice to future leaders
A:involve yourself in as many things as you can.
My personal experience with this field is that I am an assistant tech director at The Bridge Church. The question of what makes a good leader? I have done research into it according to ccl.org 12 essential qualities are integrity, self awareness, courage, respect, compassion, and resilience. With my experience I think that a good leader cares for all their team members, they listen to what everyone has to say and chooses the best option. Another thing is they are responsible and willing to learn.
Summer and Summer Breaks
5/16/25
As summer so quickly approaches I asked students and teachers a couple question based around summer here are the anwsers I got
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Definitely Beach summer trips, because I like to spend time in the sun and the water and would rather swim the whole summer versus climate in a mountain.
So to this date my best summer memory is taking my daughter to the beach and both of us swimming off of our boat jumping off into the water into the lake.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
The Caribbean on a white sandy beach just soaking up the sun because I like beaches makes me feel like a pirate just kind of being in the Caribbean.
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Mountain getaways because its colder and I like the cold.
Going to Pittsburgh for the first time for a barbershop choir international competition.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
I would want to go to Europe and more specifically Ireland because I am Irish.
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Beach trips because I like the beach and I like going swimming.
When I went to the Dominican Republic because all my family members were there and we got to hangout with all of my cousins.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
Iowa because I only have to deal with tornados and nothing else major.
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Probably beach because I like swimming and I like to see all the different types of fish.
Probably going to Valleyfair about 5 years ago I like roller coaster and I got to see my extended family.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
I would probably go to Florida because I want to be close to the beach and I want to go to Disney World.
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Beach trips because if it's a nice day I would rather enjoy the sun at the beach than be on a mountain.
Hanging out with my family on a very nice day like going boating or something like that.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
I usually go camping down by the Mississippi all summer because there are a lot of things to do and you can also go and see some cool caves.
Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
Beach trips I dont like high things.
Sitting around the fire with family.
If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
At a camp site in the middle of a forest because that's always where I've wanted to go camping.
Some of their responses surprised me . This next portion I will answer the questions myself here's what I answered:
Q- Do you prefer beach trips or mountain get aways when the weather is warm? Why?
A- I think I would prefer Beach trips because you can do a lot on a beach and it probably would be more fun, Plus I could go swimming and see if I can see any fish swimming around.
Q- What's the best summer memory you've ever had?
A- I think the best summer memory was when my grandma Zelda took me and my cousin Keaton to Hawaii and we just got to experience a lot of new things we went around the whole island and just got to see so much nature.
Q- If you could spend a whole summer anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
A- I will probably have to say somewhere tropical with lots of trails to hike on I just love to see nature and I like to experience that for a whole summer. If I had to pick 2 places my second place would be the UK because I just want to see what they have over there and they have tons of stuff to do around the whole island.
I can say now that almost everyone would rather stay hot than go to the cold.

Today I decided to do something for Memorial Day so I decided to find information on my 3 great grandparents who fought in wars.
My great grandpa Lloyd Robert Zieman. Here is a little bit about him.
He was born January 14th 1920 in Meservey, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. His parents were John Robert Zieman and Tena Smith-Zieman. He had 3 siblings Earl Zieman, Wilma Sherburn, and Stella Grube. He got married July 28, 1956 and had 6 kids.He raised his kids on a farm just outside of Rockford, Floyd County, Iowa. He died on October 21, 1987 in Mason City Hospital. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford Iowa.
He was drafted into World War II July 20 1942 at the age of 22. He was a part of the 14th armored infantry as a PFC. He wrote a letter to his family on December 12th 1944. He was shipped to the border of France by the Mediterranean. He went through the battle of Alsace on to Saarbrucken. He went on to Heidelberg were he was wounded and taken captive by the Germans. He was reported missing on the German front December 17th 1944. He was later confirmed to be a POW. He was taken to the hospital in Heppenheim as a POW. He injured his left foot and lost partial use of his right hand.He later lost part of his foot while he was a POW. He returned to the military base March 27th 1945. He was classified as a 100 percent disabled veteran. He had to learn to write with his left hand and learn how to walk again, then returned to Iowa. He worked on his parents farm and drove a rock truck. He met his wife-to-be in April of 1956.
My grandma told me that when she was young her dad slept on a couch downstairs away from everyone. She said she asked her mom and her mom said it was because he worked late and didn't want to wake anyone up. But my grandma found out as she got older the reason was because her dad had PTSD and wanted to keep them all safe from him.
He was born October 12 1929. Jim enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 17 and served his country with honor. Jim married Juanita Dyer they had 3 children togther. On July 18 1964 Jim Married Sandra Hildebrand through this they had another child. They settled in Mason City. He worked at PPG Industries in Mason City for 35 years.
