Hello! My name is Eric Hoard, I graduate in the big 25, and I'm a yearbook page editor! I like to cook and bowl, as well as study insects. I'll be using this blog to help others peek into the life of students and activities in school.
Cash Survey

I conducted a survey at RRMR to figure out how many hours a week you work and the income of high school students and what they do for jobs. 35% of the students responded, giving a large variety of answers. I asked how many hours a week they worked. 19% said none, 35.7% said 1-10 hours, 31% said 11-20 hours, and only 14.3% work 21 or more hours.
Out of 40 students 10 of them work at retail, 8 in farm or yard work a long with various other jobs. It's really cool to see the large number of high school students in the work force, making money balancing school and work.

I chose Aces Bar and Grill as my local favorite. I don't live in Rockford but I go to school here and I’ve had my share of experiences in Aces. I first had Aces in my sophomore year during semester testing. My friend Aiden Wolters cooked us some chicken and that was my first time there. During the 2024 homecoming week, Aces Bar and Grill hosted their one year anniversary street dance, welcoming students from Rockford after the dance.
I interviewed Aiden Wolters, he said when the bank was selling the property he and his dad purchased it, tearing it apart and fixing it up to standard so they could create a bar in town. He likes that it's family owned, clean and everything functions right, along with the food being very good. He believes that it offers a decent restaurant, and a loving community.
Aces Bar and Grill is owned by Monte Wolters and managed by Britney Wolters. Aces is honestly an amazing place. The staff care about the meals they serve and they take great pride in their food, making sure that customers enjoy it!

I wanted to know students' favorite teachers and what they learned from them, so I asked Aeden Nobbs and here's what he had to say.
"Ms. Osmonson is my favorite teacher because she’s cool. She taught me that if I do my work I can [have free time] and she inspires me because she’s always happy."
I find that interviewing Aeden was really great, he answered my questions clearly and had a great attitude the whole time, his answers were great and I'd love to interview him again!

Before spring break I asked fellow seniors about what they thought about their last spring break and how it differed from the others. I asked Damien Graff, Keaton Crowe and Avery Kruse; here's what I got.
Damien says that his plans are to sleep in as well as looking forward to finally work on his car. He's spending his spring break like this because he hasn't gotten enough sleep during school and the fact that he's not doing much this spring break is because he did something last year. I asked Damien about his thoughts on his senior spring break, and he said "Good that its my last one."
Keaton says that his plans are to make money over spring break. He says hes looking forward to having a break and he's spending it this way because he likes profit. Keaton is relieved that this is his final spring break and its special that way.
Avery said that she plans on working over spring break. She's looking forward to not having to be at school and adding up hours for work. she chose to spend it like this because she wants to make more money and compared to last sping breaks, she has a job now. Avery feels good now that its her las spring break.
I too am excited for my final spring break and I'm going to spend it with my friends. spring breaks are a time to enjoy yourself for a short bit to enjoy the nice weather, now that winter has passed. Spring break is an incredible thing and I'm so grateful our spring break was as long as it was!
I asked Kyler, Devin, and Aeden about what they did over spring break and their answers vary, yet some similar.
3/21/25
The place Kyler liked the most was Colorado. the best thing he ate was a meatloaf and every day he brushed his teeth. The best time was when he rode his dirt bikes and he was exhausted after working out. he misses having free time in spring break.
The place Devin liked the most was his room. He enjoyed two large pizzas and did chores every day. the best time was when he got his car and drove it around. the funniest moment however was when he fell, hanging out with his friends. He was exhausted after working on his car and he misses sleeping in.
The place Aeden liked was Quintans house, as well as having two large pizzas. Every day he went to someones house and had the best time getting his hair cut. The funniest moment happened at a bonfire and he was exhausted after being at de-bins store. He misses most about spring break was sleeping in as well.
I think these answers were very characteristic of these students, and I'm so glad they had a good spring break!

With Prom coming up, I was curious about who was going and why they thought it'd be memorable. I asked Gage Jeremiason, Dillon Borchardt, and Ava Hoard, a student who graduated in 2022.
Senior, Gage Jeremiason
Q: Why aren't you going to prom?
A: Because I have no one to go with.
Q: What are you going to do instead?
A: Staying at home
Q: if you could change one thing about prom, what would you change?
A: Honestly I wouldnt change anything about it.
Senior, Dillon Borchardt
Q: What are you looking forward to?
A: After prom.
Q: What does prom mean to you?
A: Going to have fun with the person you're going with, and others.
Q: Are you nervous or excited?
A: Excited.
Graduate, Ava hoard
Q: What do you remember most about your prom?
A: I remember, staying the whole time and being exhausted, but was fun because of the people I went with.
Q: Was it everything you expected?
A: Yes and no, people hyped it up for me but when I went it was less than I expected, but I knew it would be loud and I'd have a good time.
Q: do you have any advice for students today?
A: if you're going with a group or meeting people there, Chose a designated driver.
According to YouGov, 67% of Americans say that it was personally important for them to go to prom. 25% of which went without a date. According to shatterproof, a triple A survey found that 41% of students from 16-19 said they would most likely drink or use drugs on prom night. I think you should go to prom, even if you don't have a date! It will be fun! Also, don't go to prom under the influence! Be smart and be safe!

Prom was a great night for me, and I asked Dillon about his night, here's how it went.
Q: Did you enjoy prom on Saturday?
A: Yes.

A: The dance, because there were people mad at each other for some reasons
Q: Are you satisfied with the prize you picked after Prom?
A: yeah, a microwave!
Q: How did you pick your colors?
A: Grace did, she just chose green.
Sandy Beaches, clear blue skies, all your friends hanging out with you--- Here at RRMR high, we don't necessarily have a plentiful amount of trips. Here and there you'll go to a place to learn about plants or a musical, but those aren't anything super exciting. In 2022 there was a trip for band and choir students to drive down to Florida. I unfortunately had a trip to Mexico that same date and I missed the trip. My friends told me the great time they had and how much I missed. I think everyone should have the opportunity to have fun like that before they graduate. This upcoming summer, the Spanish students will be going to Spain for a trip and explore the area, practicing their skills in Spanish speaking. I had interviewed Samantha whatever as she the Spanish teacher, leading this expedition.
Q: Why do you think there should be more high school trips?
A: "Yes to give our students opportunities to view the world outside of their own community."
Q: What kind of trip wouldn't you go on?
A: " I wouldn't go on a trip with students younger than high school."
Q: Where would you go if you could go on a class trip?
A: "I would go to New Zealand, because they speak English but they have the exact opposite seasons with us and they have farms like iowa so I could compare it to iowa."
In the end, I personally think that high schools should have more trips for their classes. Sam has given me wonderful insight from a teachers perspective and I thank her for that.

Thank you Osmonson. You as a teacher have helped me through high school, inadvertently taught me deadlines in many different classes, only one of which had to do with deadlines. You've put up with the antics of me and my friends and I thank you for that. From freshman to senior you've been a fun and engaging teacher, saying funny things and laughing at our humor from time to time. One moment I doubt I'll ever forget is when Jack had an Uncrustable sandwich and said something way out of right field and definitely not appropriate. You were not amused but we found it so funny that every time we bring it up we laugh. You were and in my opinion will always be the best teacher that has ever taught at RRMR. I will never forget the things you've taught me, nor the experiences I've had in your classes. You are so wise and kind, you'll show tough love and be proud when someone gets their work done. Osmonson, you are a fantastic teacher and I hope you never change!
