Hi! My name is Briella Hinrichsen, and I’m part of the Yearbook & Communications class. I love participating in different activities and classes that challenge me. On this blog, I’ll be sharing stories about student life and activities.
Outside of class, I enjoy playing volleyball, dancing, and hanging out with my loved ones. I’m excited to keep you updated on what’s happening in our school and community!
Day in the Life 1/22/25
Throughout the day, everyone is doing something different. Some of us have very different lives, which is why I thought it would be interesting to take a look into what a few people do in their everyday lives. I chose 5 people from different grades and backgrounds to interview. I asked them what they usually do during various times of the day, and here’s what I found…
Favorite Superhero
1/30/25
For my blog this week, I interviewed 5 students and asked them what their favorite superhero was.
Aiden Steere- 7th
Batman
Billie Towner-9th
Batman
Alex Havranek-10th
Captain Man
Abi Brierly-10th
Batman
Lilly Moen-11th
Cat Woman
Above shows a photo of each student, their name and grade, and their favorite superhero. I found it amusing that they almost all chose Batman. If I were asked this, I would probably say Superman.
A Place That Matters to Me 2/6/25
Throughout my life, my family and I have gone to the Methodist church here in Rockford. According to the official First United Methodist Church's website, my church has 61 members. My church is also home to Amy's food pantry, which gives meals to families in need. I love going to church because it brings me joy to enjoy my connection to God. I asked my mother, who has also gone to this church her whole life, what her favorite part of our church was. Her reply can be found beside this passage. I believe our church is very important to our community because we give back to our community and help people who are in need.
My mother's favorite part of church is our church family. Our church is also important to her because that's where she got married.

What's Exciting About Prom? 4/11/25
In an article titled, "Prom Season Excites Teens and Worries Parents," by Karen in Drug Prevention, prom is exciting for teens because they can dress up and match their dates, they can dance and have fun, and they can make plans before prom with their friends. This week, I interviewed 3 people: one who has gone to prom in the past, one who is going to prom, and one who isn't. I wanted to find out what they were excited for when thinking about prom.
Abi said the reason she isn't going to prom is because she's only a sophomore. She thinks an exciting thing about prom is going to after prom.
Lucas said the thing he is most excited for about prom is the dance. His prom plans are to go out to eat and take pictures with friends, then go to the dance, then go to after prom.
Bobbi (my mom) went to prom at Rockford in 1993 and 1994. Her favorite part about prom was that they all ate supper together at the school, and she liked that because it meant they could all be together. Some advice she would give to people going to prom is to have fun and don't worry about the little details.
To me, prom is exciting because it's an opportunity to do something you normally wouldn't do with your friends. I hope that prom is fun for everyone this year, and I also hope that I have a good time!
Post Prom 4/14/25
Last week, I interviewed Lucas Dow, a senior attending prom. I wanted to follow up with him by asking him a few questions about his prom experience this year.
Q: "Did you have fun at prom this year?"
A: "It was okay but not as fun as last year."
Q: "What was the best thing that happened at prom?"
A: "I played ping pong at the dance."
Q: "Were you exhausted after the night was over?"
A: "Yeah."
Homework: Is it Helpful or Harmful? 5/1/25
The purpose of this blog was to decipher whether or not homework is really helpful to students. To figure this out, I interviewed 2 people: a teacher and a student. I asked them a few questions about school and homework, which can be found below.
Q: "Do you ever feel stressed out about your workload from school?"
A: "Yes I do."
Q: "Why do you think teachers assign homework?"
A: "Because they don't have enough time in class to go through it."
Q: "Do you feel like homework is helpful or harmful to students?"
A: "In spirit it would be helpful, but in reality it's harmful because you don't do it and then you're behind."
Q: "Do you ever feel stressed out about your workload from school?"
A: "Yeah, all the time."
Q: "Why do you think teachers assign homework?"
A: "So we can get more done outside of class."
Q: "Do you feel like homework is helpful or harmful to students?"
A: "I wouldn't say harmful, but I don't think it's good to expect students to get things done outside of class."
I appreciated the time and thought both of the people I interviewed put into their answers. In my opinion, homework assigned to be completed out of class isn't very helpful. All it does is cause more stress for students and teachers who are already living busy lives. Even though homework can help students learn in some cases, I believe that overall it is just a burden for most people, and that work should be completed in designated class times. However, if a student doesn't complete the work they're assigned during class, I think it's acceptable to expect them to get it done regardless.

For this post, I tried to include people who I knew had differing schedules for the summer. However, I want to try and make the most of it by doing more with my friends.
RRMR is... 5/20/25
If I could describe my experience at my school in one word, I would use "incomparable," because I don't think I could get the same experience anywhere else. I'm happy I'm spending my high school years here, and I feel like this is a place where I can be happy. I interviewed 2 other people, asking them how they'd describe their experience at Rockford.
"Supporting"
"Interesting"
