Hello, my name is Charles Bayim and I am part of the Yearbook & Communications class. On this blog I will mostly be covering interviews and some photography. Outside of class I enjoy playing basketball. I’m excited to keep you updated on what’s happening in our school and community!
Travel Abroad
1/24/25
About this post - I interviewed our Spanish teacher Samantha Schriever about a trip she took outside of the country.
Where did you travel to? Reykjavik, Iceland
Who did you travel with? My friend, Alissa Ortega and my cousin Kelsi
How would you describe the people you meet? They were incredibly friendly and outgoing. Everyone we met gave us ideas of activities to do and places to go.
What made you want to travel there? Cheap plane tickets. We just looked up the cheapest tickets to Europe and they were to Iceland.
What was your best experience there? Going to a local café called Café Loki. We met very nice people there and they were giving us all the advice from locals about what to do during our trip.
What was your worst experience there? This trip went pretty smoothly, but when we were leaving to go to the airport there was an accident on the road before our hostel. Our taxi couldn’t get through for about an hour and we almost missed our plane because of it.
8. How did you prepare yourself for this trip? I looked up what the weather was like in Iceland so I would know what to pack and we booked our hostel ahead of time. Everything else we just planned as we went along.
9. When did you take this trip? June 2023
10. Would you go back? Absolutely! I would love to go back for a longer amount of time, and during the height of summer. There is a ton of hiking in the volcanic mountains that I heard about but didn’t have time to do the first time.
What is your favorite app on your phone?
Kylie Brokel
Snapchat was Kylie's favorite app because she uses it a lot to stay in touch with her friends.
Christian Reinke
Facebook was Christian's favorite app because he can look at things people are selling.
Harper Hillman
Instagram was Harper's favorite app because she can watch reels and see what people are doing.
Ellie Baltes
Tic Tok was Ellie's favorite app because she can watch videos of many different things.
Local favorites
A local favorite for Rockford is the Yesway gas station. If you live in Rockford and you walk in the gas station you are almost always greeted by your first name. This is a place where all the old people got to drink coffee and gossip. Yesway was built in 2017 and replaced express mart. i personally go there at least 2 times a week to get various things, i have a good relationship with the people that work there.

I just recently figured out my plans for after high school. I plan to attend the University of Northern Iowa. I will major in supply chain management. I plan to stay in the dorms for the first year and possibly get an apartment for the following years.
I wouldn't say I'm nervous about going to college, I just hope I made the right decision. I know it will be hard but as long as I stick with it and try I feel like I will be okay. But I am excited to meet new people and experience new things. It will be a big change from what I'm used to but I'm ready!
