About Chandler: Chandler Cook is a Junior majoring in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and minoring in Biomedical Engineering. Her experience participating in the CELA Large Animal Veterinary Practice in the Tropics study abroad program in San Ignacio Belize expanded her education outside the classroom. The program's focus on hands-on learning taught Chandler many veterinary skills like suturing techniques and ability to perform exams during farm calls. The excursions outside of veterinary learning allowed her to explore Belizean culture, with their nature being her favorite site. Chandler has chosen to become a peer advisor to show others that a study abroad opportunity for them is possible even with varying circumstances.
Advice to Prospective Education Abroad Students: As someone that has never gone out the country before my Summer 2025 Study abroad trip, my advice to prospective education abroad students is anything is possible. Even with my nervousness towards traveling alone to another country for the first time, I still followed through and had great experiences in Belize and connected with many other pre-veterinary students from around the US. In whatever your circumstances are, I became a peer advisor to help you make your decision to study abroad possible through the many options that the education abroad office offers.
