Roy's Education Abroad Experience

"Copenhagen has one of the most suitable programs for Computer Science, a major without many study abroad options. It was also one of the best study abroad programs I found in general, including excursions across Europe and within Denmark, with many benefits.

Polar plunging in one of the cleanest canals in the world, captaining solar-powered boats, and exploring Viking culture are just small glimpses of my time abroad. The most memorable part was traveling with my class and professors to different countries. The travel consisted of interviewing leaders in AI at Google Deepmind and OpenAI in the morning and in the evening, having high tea, and riding the London Eye.

I was surprised by the freedom, ease, and relative inexpensiveness of traveling across Europe and exploring many different cultures, foods, languages, and people.

The most crucial lesson was improving my compassion and being understanding of other perspectives and cultures. Being given the opportunity to interact with so many people and ways of life is something I will forever cherish.

Penn State is incredible, and the time here on campus is truly short. Nevertheless, if I could do it again, I would. It is a semester unlike any other. You push yourself out of comfort zones you might not have even known you had, you see a world that most never get the opportunity to explore, and most of all, you make connections that will definitely last a lifetime."
