Education Abroad Programs:

Major: Biological Sciences

Minor: Statistics

About Avani: Avani has participated in three education abroad opportunities through Penn State. She spent three weeks in Tanzania for the Biology of EcoHealth course, where she loved the safaris in the national parks and immersions possible with local Hadza and Maasai cultures. She has also taken Tropical Field Ecology, which was two weeks of "biologizing" in Costa Rica. Most recently, Avani spent the fall semester in Singapore at the National University of Singapore, where she took classes and did research. Her time in Singapore allowed her to explore a few countries in Southeast Asia - all out of a backpack! She has chosen to become a peer adviser to encourage other students to explore less traditional locations for their education abroad experiences.

Advice to Prospective Education Abroad Students: I was so on the fence about spending a semester abroad, but my time in Singapore gave me so many connections with new friends across the globe and memories that I will never forget. I am so glad that I made that choice! This is a hard decision, and I will help you understand your options for picking the best education abroad program so that you will gain lifetime experiences and memories.
