Kyle's Education Abroad Experience

"I chose my education abroad program to not only meet a 400-level criminal justice major requirement but being able to study serial killers and the criminal justice system in London was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What surprised me the most was the difference in cultures, including the differences between our criminal justice systems.

The most important lesson I learned is that no system is perfect. Every area has room for improvement and going to London showed me ways that different systems in the United States can be improved whether it is criminal justice-related or not.

Some of the most memorable moments were talking to officers at New Scotland Yard, watching the changing of the Guard, going on a Jack the Ripper walking tour, and experiencing a different culture.

The experience abroad helped me achieve my future goals and aspirations because I would like to enter the law enforcement field. Being able to see differences, and then have the ability to compare and contrast them, can greatly help me possibly implement changes in the future.

When it comes to studying abroad, I would say go for it. I thought about money as a factor, but money can be replaced. You’re never going to get an experience like this again, and you may look back one day and have regret. Live in the moment!"
