"During my time abroad, I was able to witness cultural diversity which aided in my cultural awareness and competency. My favorite and most memorable moment abroad might have been touring a printing press company, MAE, located in Germany because prior to my abroad experience, my class and I toured the American counterpart of this company. This was my most memorable experience because while visiting both companies on either sides of the world, it demonstrated cultural diversity amongst the workers, which was very interesting. The course that we took consisted of the topic of cultural dimensions, which simply are ways to understand how different cultures might affect people’s behavior and values.
I chose this abroad program because I wanted to get out explore the world. I love traveling and I love learning so I figured I’d just do both. This class was actually perfect for my business major which is another reason as to why I considered taking it. This program was affordable with the help of SEN, which I am so grateful for.
What surprised me the most might have been the tipping culture throughout Europe! In the states, tipping is so very common to the point where sometimes it’s mandatory lol. I was highly surprised when I found out that the tipping culture is basically non existent in Europe!
The most important lesson that I took from my education abroad experience was to remain openminded and to be open and willing to change. I most definitely think that my experience abroad would help me to achieve my future goals by teaching me the importance of diversity and inclusion in the social work field. I aspire to become a social worker to give people not only a voice, but to provide them with someone who can listen and understand. I think that one of the most ethical aspects of social work is to be accepting and understanding when it comes to diversity and equality. I would say definitely do it! There is so much to this world and so much to see! I would definitely say to apply to as many grants and scholarships because they are very helpful!"
