Jan. 29-Feb. 2, 2024

This week:

Thursday, February 1st - the beginning of Black History Month (February 1st - 29th)

Friday, February 2nd - 100th Day of School @ SW and Groundhog Day  ("early spring")

It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.

Learning Targets/Agenda: (not necessarily in this order)

Students will listen to a story about the 100th Day of School or Black History Month or Groundhog Day.

Students will answer questions about the story.

Students will read/preview books at their table.

Students will take a comprehension quiz on the story and/or complete an activity about the story.

Brain Breaks (as needed): movement activities

(12:35 - 1:20) Mrs. Shavers' 3rd grade class:  Please click on the story below, Jake's 100th Day of School OR/AND 100th Day Worries, from the teacher's computer that is attached to the SmartBoard.  After the students listen to the story, they should take the Accelerated Reader quiz on the book.  The quiz numbers are listed below.  After students take the AR quiz(zes), they can work on the Hip Hip Hooray for the 100th Day! worksheet.  This is something they can work on together or on their own or quietly with the student next to them.  The back of the paper has a blank 100 chart that they can fill by writing their numbers 1-100.  You do not need to collect these papers before you leave; the students can take them home.  If the students complete their work before you leave, they can work on Lexia or they can get on Epic! (an ebook website that is linked from the Scholars page).

I put a 100 chart below if students would like to write their numbers.
