Learning Targets/Agenda: (not necessarily in this order)

Students will listen to a book/lesson.

Students will answer questions about the book/lesson.

Students will take an Accelerated Reader quiz for the story.

Students will read books at their table, on Epic!, or on MyOn.



This week we will learn about Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an African American man that is called the "Father of Black History Month".  Watch the videos below to learn more about him and how Black History Month began!  :)


For my Wednesday morning substitute, please play each video in the order shown below.  You may ask students questions or discuss what they saw as you see fit.  The lesson and activities below will be used for both Mr. Davis' class & Mrs. Rancifer's class.

Students: Read these questions.  You will  need to listen for the answers to these questions during the story that you will watch next:

1. Why did Carter get in bed early on Saturday nights?

2. When Carter was 15, what was one way he earned money?

3. What did Carter do for the men in Oliver Jones's tearoom?

4. What did Carter do when he was 20 years old?

5. Why did Carter choose a week in February as Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month?
