Week beginning - Monday 19th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It’s been another action-packed week in Year 6! We’ve been diving deep into the world of percentages, training our brains to hunt down that elusive 1%. Once we found it, there was no stopping us. We’ve been multiplying it, adding it to 5%, and generally becoming incredible mathematicians! The best part? We put our skills to the ultimate test: calculating discounts on ice creams. So, parents, if you see a "6% off" sign at the shops this weekend, don't panic—Year 6 is officially on the case to make sure you get every penny of change back!
From the sweet world of ice cream, we took a slightly darker (but very exciting!) turn into Anglo-Saxon Britain. We’ve been writing dramatic diary entries about the "creative" crimes and punishments of the era. We discovered that the Anglo-Saxons were big fans of Trial by Ordeal. It turns out that back then, being "innocent" usually involved a lot of blessed food, boiling water or being tossed into a cold pond to see if you’d sink or float. The logic? If God "saved" you, you were innocent... though, as the children pointed out, the "saving" part often happened a little too late to enjoy the victory!
It’s safe to say we’re all very glad that modern school rules mostly just involve losing five minutes of break time rather than the Trial by Hot Iron!
